What You Should Know About IPL/Laser Permanent Hair Reduction
The IPL/laser permanent hair reduction industry has become a highly competitive environment often offering patients cheap deals but it has become imperative that patients make an educated decision regarding the clinic/salon that that they use, as there are dangers surrounding the type of machine used as well as issues around the training/qualifications the clinicians have to use the IPL/laser.
Luxe Medispa regards your safety and comfort a priority and therefore uses the Palomar StarLux IPL/Laser, from America, which has passed the criteria set out by the Australian Therapeutic Goods Association (TGA) ensuring that it is one of the safest technologies on the market. It also has contact cooling to ensure that it is pain-free and comfortable. We have ensured that our clinicians are trained extensively and that before each course of treatments commences your skin is analysed to guarantee your safety.
Pulsed light systems and lasers are very similar, but Palomar Pulsed Light Systems use a much larger lens than lasers. This spreads light over a wider area of skin and allows faster coverage of the skin and quicker treatments as a result. Pulsed light also targets the lighter-coloured hair that lasers are unable to affect.
Permanent hair reduction is achieved when the cells responsible for growing new hair are destroyed. These cells are situated on the roots of the hair that is visible to us. The pulses of light are set at specific wavelengths, which target the pigment in our hair follicles. The light is absorbed by the pigment in the follicles and converted to heat. The heat then loosens the hair and disables the cells responsible for growing new hair.
What Should You Expect From Our IPL Permanent Hair Reduction System
- As a result of the absorption of the light energy, you can expect to feel a mild sunburn-like sensation, immediately after treatment, and your skin may become pink or redness may occur, possibly accompanied by some minor swelling, but your skin will return to its natural colour shortly after treatment. This usually lasts 2-24 hours, and can be soothed with cold gel or ice packs. In very rare cases this pink or redness may linger for a day or two.
- The treated hair will continue to appear for 7-30 days post-treatment. This is not new hair growth, but the treated hairs being expelled from the skin.
- At any given time, some of your hair is not in a phase of active growth. You will, therefore need more than one treatment to affect the growth of all your unwanted hair. It is recommended that you have multiple sessions at five week intervals.
- Spider Veins: Vessels may disappear after treatment or they may appear darker and then fully or partially fade within 10-14 days.
- Depending on your skin type and hair colour, it is possible for permanent hair removal to be achieved but in most cases permanent hair reduction will occur and you may be required to undergo sporadic maintenance treatments. Typically, several treatments will be necessary to achieve permanent hair reduction.
